Project Gutenberg is deeply grateful to Pietro di Miceli of Rome, Italy. Pietro made Project Gutenberg's first Web pages in 1994, and was the sole driving force behind the Project Gutenberg Web pages for nearly a decade.

During that time, the Web grew phenomenally. Pietro worked to maintain an updated appearance on the Web pages, using the latest in design techniques. The Project Gutenberg Web pages won awards, and was often featured in "best of the Web" listings.

Pietro's designs had a strong emphasis on accessibility for visually impaired readers, for low-bandwidth use, and for a strong functional layout. These days, Pietro is mostly taking a back seat to Web design, allowing others to carry on in his tradition of excellence.
